Lorde está de volta com "What Was That", seu primeiro single inédito desde 2021, marcando o inÃcio de uma nova fase em sua carreira. A canção foi lançada oficialmente nesta quinta-feira (24) e já está disponÃvel nas plataformas digitais.
A estrela neozelandesa também lançou um clipe oficial para a música, com participação dos fãs, no Washington Square Park, em Nova York. O encontro com seus admiradores, anunciado pela cantora em suas redes sociais, atraiu uma multidão e foi interrompido pela polÃcia devido à falta de permissões necessárias.
Apesar disso, Lorde e o colaborador Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) improvisaram uma audição do single com um alto-falante portátil, transformando o momento em uma celebração Ãntima com os fãs.
Musicalmente, "What Was That" remete à era "Melodrama", com uma produção minimalista que combina linhas de baixo sutis e sintetizadores suaves. A letra aborda temas de perda e introspecção, com versos como: "Desde os 17, te dei tudo / Agora acordo de um sonho / Bem, o que é que foi aquilo?".
